This incident I am blabbering about, took place in 1977. I was boarder at St.George’s College, Mussoorie in 7th std.
We received 15 rupees pocket money every alternate Sunday, to leave the school boundaries and go and enjoy all day in town. Obviously how eagerly I waited for this day, the crispy 5 rupee notes that we received.
We had to walk a long way from school to the town. 5 r.s. for movie tickets, 5 r.s. for the masala dosa at Madras café. I remember the generous sardarji, never complained of us drinking sambhar like maniacs to fill the stomach. Rest 5 r.s. would go for juice, papadi chat, or amarchitra katha comics. As per desire. By evening everyone left town with sullen heads and heavy hearts back for school premises.

I had been Enid blyton fan and by sheer bad luck lost a book of school library” The missing Necklace “ by Enid blyton. Now I was instructed to buy the book from my pocket money and deposit it with the Librarian.
I remember walking all the way to town on pocket money day. Very depressed I was, because I didn’t know what it would cost me. My whole pocket money burnt for buying the book. I remember my friend Dharmpal garg, coming to my rescue. He had some reserve money. He paid for my Dosa and movie tickets. I can never forget that lavish generosity showered on me.
